Fishing in Diablo 4 Season 15 has a prize that can make the long search for rare rewards feel a little less daunting. The Godly Plate of the Whale doubles fishing loot, giving you more opportunities to land something worthwhile each time you cast. It's one of the more unusual D4 items to chase, especially if you're after the Trawghll murloc pet. You'll need to take on the hidden boss Mefishto for a chance at the armor, though, and getting him to appear takes some preparation.
Why the Armor Matters
The plate's effect is simple: a regular catch gives you two items instead of one, while a perfect catch gives you four instead of two. That extra loot adds up when you're spending hours by the water. It won't double enemy encounters, so don't expect two bosses to jump out at once. Mefishto also doesn't drop the chest piece every time. You may need several attempts, and it's worth checking your loot filter before you start so you don't miss the reward if it does appear.
Getting Mefishto to Bite
Before heading out, collect 10 Legendary or Unique fish. You can mix the two rarities and use duplicates, but Mythic fish won't work in the recipe. Put the 10 fish into the Horadric Cube to receive a Torn Net. Watch for the message "You emit a foul, hateful stench." That's your sign that the hidden effect is active. From there, fish somewhere enemies can appear. Towns and other safe areas won't produce the encounter, no matter how long you wait.
A Place to Cast
One spot players use is on the southern coast of Philios in Skovos. Start at the Temmis waypoint, travel toward Philios, and follow the shore east of the land bridge leading to Cetos. Look for two small rocks in the water near the coastline. With the effect active, you can fish there until Mefishto takes the bait. Bring a build you're comfortable fighting with: the boss won't simply hand over the armor. If you're fishing with a group, you can keep trying together when the plate doesn't turn up.
The Search for Trawghll
Trawghll comes from a Mythic fishing reward called the Gurgling Bag of Rubbish, not from Mefishto himself. You can find the bag in eligible waters throughout Sanctuary, regardless of world difficulty or achievement progress. It's a rare catch, and the search can take anywhere from 50 to more than 150 hours. Players browsing D4 items cheap may still want to set aside time for the water: wearing the plate and aiming for perfect catches means more loot for every successful cast.
