A fire build can clear rooms comfortably yet struggle against a durable boss. Before spending Hero Siege Gold on another damage upgrade, identify whether the problem is resistance, skill scaling, or lost attacking time.
Season 10 makes that diagnosis especially worthwhile. Patch 7.0.8 corrected an Ignore Resistance calculation error, so equipment comparisons made before the correction deserve another test rather than automatic acceptance.
Resistance Changes the Upgrade Question
Fire Skill Damage increases fire skill output, while Ignore Fire Resistance addresses the resistance encountered when dealing fire damage. These stats solve different problems; a larger offensive number does not necessarily mean a stronger upgrade against your chosen target.
Consider a simplified example: a hit worth 1,000 damage before resistance delivers 400 if the target reduces it by 60%. Raising that original hit by 20% produces 480. Reducing the effective damage reduction to 40% instead produces 600. These illustrative numbers are not specific monster statistics.
Treat penetration as a question about the actual modifier, not a universal formula borrowed from another game. Read the affix carefully, distinguish resistance handling from damage bonuses, and compare results against the same enemy. Ignore Fire Resistance has a stated 100% cap.
Critical Scaling Must Match the Skill
Do not assume every critical modifier supports a fire spell. Standard Critical Strike Chance and Critical Strike Damage apply to basic attacks and Physical-tagged abilities; spell critical scaling uses separate bonuses. Match equipment to the damage source that actually carries the build.
For a skill that can critically hit, compare reliable critical frequency with the size of those hits. Test sustained damage over several attempts instead of judging an item by one unusually large number. Keep resistance equipment unchanged during this comparison.
Skill bonuses also need context. All Skills raises allocated skill levels, while Fire Skill Damage improves fire skills. Examine what an additional level changes in your main ability, then test that gain against a percentage damage alternative.
Separate Farming Tests from Boss Tests
Use ordinary farming enemies to measure clear time, coverage, and unnecessary extra damage. If packs already disappear immediately, try an upgrade that improves movement or delivery rather than chasing a larger hit.
Use elites and bosses to measure sustained output. High health alone does not establish high resistance. Compare repeated attempts with one equipment change, keeping difficulty, rotation, and temporary effects consistent.
Record both completion time and interruptions. If stronger hits do not shorten the fight, investigate missed casts, resource shortages, positioning, or defensive pressure before replacing another item.
Build around the limitation your tests reveal. When considering cheap Hero Siege Gold for equipment purchases, prioritize a measurable improvement against your intended content rather than another impressive tooltip.
